Goodbye, GoDaddy!

After years of wishing I had never registered my domains with GoDaddy, I’ve finally done it. My three main domain names were on the verge of expiring, and I just couldn’t stomach the thought of giving them another cent of my money.

Assuming all goes well, I will soon be delightfully free of their obnoxious spammy emails, their terrible spammy website, the constant upsell traps, the ridiculous image and advertising, and their SOPA supporting nonsense. So long, amigos! Namecheap, here I come…

Not exactly a simple process, but not impossible. First I signed up to do the transfer with Namecheap, unlocked my domains with GoDaddy, got some EPP codes from GoDaddy, plugged those into Namecheap, responded to some authorization emails from Namecheap, then approved the transfer in GoDaddy’s control panel. Done.
